Shibumi
By Trevanian

‘Shibumi’ is an ancient game based in Zen philosophy. It is something like to chess, but far more intricate yet much simpler. Nicholai Hel, the hero of this fiction factory book, is a Zen master of this spiritual life board game. He can be likened to a jedi master as he is able to enter the space between thoughts, that ethereal place were there is no thought, only purely inspirational thoughts. This book is a fantastic example of truth hidden in fantastic fiction. Trevanian unmasks all the strange twistedness of the system. He shows the machinations of the thievery corporation hive, how it has, and still is attempting to throw the world into bondage, even at world’s end. However, let’s not get bogged down here, conspiracy theory is not all it’s cranked up to be. The reason this book features on the Tropic of Freedom Books Fiction Factory is because of the space that Hel is able to enter.
An Irresistable Force
Hel is an irresistible force that meets an immovable object. It is for that very reason that he is classified as a mauve-card man. He is impeccable, caring, tender and yet completely ruthless. As Hel takes on the CIA and the Mother Company he demonstrates cunning, ruthlessness, sweetness and patience.
Warrior Soul
Hel is the modern warrior soul, only he has channeled his warriorship and sorcerery into the art of assassination. Although he has retired from his profession, Hel is drawn back into the world of secret operatives through the blunders of a small group of idealists. He then takes on an entire system and almost comes out unscathed. This is a book for those who have a warrior soul. For people who know what it is like to stand their ground. For the Tropic of Freedom Books Finders Keepers: It is said that most people are taught a skill, but most stop there. There are a select few who are able to turn their skills into an art. What is the attitude that Nicholai Hel has which assists him to turn everything he does into an art?
