The Last Battle

By C.S. Lewis

the last battle

The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis is the seventh and final novel in the Narnia Chronicles. The book begins when a Centuar comes to warn King Tirian. The Centuar tells him that the stars foretell ominous developments. A well-meaning but misguided donkey is tricked, by a malicious ape, into pretending to be Aslan. He is told to give orders to the Narnians, which brings about a conflict among the talking animals and humans.

A Kings Quest for the
Kings and Queens of Narnia

King Tirian finds out and accuses the ape of lying. King Tirian is overpowered and tied to a tree. He calls to Aslan for help and receives a vision of Digory Kirke, Polly Plummer, Peter Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, Eustace Scrubb, Lucy Pevensie and Jill Pole. A few minutes later Jill and Eustace arrive in the magic kingdom of Narnia. They release the king, gather those that are faithful to him and prepare for battle.

Taking Lives on the Journey to Forever

At the worlds end, when the Last Battle is done, Aslan appears. Everyone gathers and Aslan chooses those who were loyal to him to join him in Aslan’s country. The rest will be destroyed along with the magic kingdom of Narnia. After Narnia is gone, the children discover that the Narnia they knew, was a dream world. The true stories of Narnia are only beginning.

For the Tropic of Freedom Books Finders Keepers:
This book reminds me of the saying: "You cannot get to where you are going, because you never left."

If the lion represents courage, strength and wisdom; and the last judgment represents atonement with self; what is meant by 'Aslan chooses those who were loyal to him'?
How does each character demonstrate this loyalty?
