Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
By J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is the first novel in the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter is a young boy who discovers he is a wizard. He is orphaned at a very early age and grows up not knowing that he is a wizard. On the night of his eleventh birthday he finds out he’s a wizard and he gets invited to go to school at Hogwarts, the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to learn magic.
Black Magic and the Power of Sacred Love
At Hogwarts, he learns real magic spells and makes friends with Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger; who end up helping him thwart an attempted comeback by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Voldemort used dark magic to kill Harry’s parents and tried to kill Harry when he was a baby. Voldemort was unsuccessful in killing Harry, because a kind of magic unknown to him, was used to shield Harry from his dark art. Harry then becomes the only person who can destroy Voldemort forever. Harry also makes a few enemies along the way, enemies whom, it would appear, are circling the dark wizard’s axis of evil.
The Absolute Value of Endless Love
Every time I read Harry Potter I learn something new. In this book, I got to experience the power and greatness of endless love, true friendship and hope. I especially like the reference to the school houses, and how the personal values of the students, determines the houses they are sorted into. This is a great reflection of the personal core values we choose to hold within ourselves.
For the Tropic of Freedom Books Finders Keepers: After reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and looking at the choices that Harry makes; I realize that the choices and decisions we make are affected by the core values we hold within us. Why this is so important, is because, these core values establish who and what we are becoming. What are the characteristics and qualities required in order for the students to be sorted into each house? How is this a reflection of the core values of the students in the houses and the potential they have to become? During our adolescence is when we go through the process of becoming who we are. Because we don't know who we are, we take on the core values and beliefs of others as a point of reference. As we grow older, we either shed values and beliefs that do not serve us, or we create and construct new ones for ourselves on our journey of finding out who and what we really are. What are your core values and beliefs? Are your core values and beliefs your own, or have you adopted them from others? Who and what have these core values and beliefs assisted you to Become?
