Harry Potter
and the Prisoner of Azkaban

By J.K. Rowling

‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ is J.K. Rowling’s third book in the Harry Potter series. In this book Harry is confronted with a new challenge. This challenge comes in the form of Sirius Black. Sirius Black has been accused of betraying his parents to the wizard of the dark art, Lord Voldemort.

The Divine Revelation
of the Hell of the Altered Ego

Everyone in the wizarding world is afraid of Sirius, because he has escaped from Azkaban. No one has ever escaped from Azkaban. They are guarded by Dementors, dark energy beings that immobilise you with their power to feed off your life force; and leave you with nothing but your worst memories and emotions. These dark energy beings made me think of Eckhart Tolle’s description of the nature of the Ego and the Painbody.

Harry’s Painful Journey to the Past

Harry finds himself, once again, battling the horror stories from his past. He learns various truths about the events from the history of the night that his parents died. We find ourselves playing with time-travel and new followers of the dark magic wizard are revealed in captivating plot twists.

Freedom From Fear

There are quite a few new characters and magical creatures that find their way into this book. We are introduced awesome magical creatures like hippogryphs, werewolves and the animagus – a shapeshifting concept where humans can turn into animals. A lot of this plot focuses on assumptions and overcoming fear, and how the ego trip wheels of assumption are so often what create our fear.

For the Tropic of Freedom Finders Keepers:
Of all the magical creatures introduced in this book; I found the Boggart particularly interesting. The Boggart is a representation of the things we fear. It can take on any shape according to the fear of the particular person standing in front of it. The only way to defeat a Boggart is to find something funny within that fear and say ‘Ridikulus’.

How often do you allow the things you fear to control you? Have you ever come across someone else’s fear and found it funny or thought it ridiculous, simply because you can see why there is no rational reason for that person’s fear?

Now, look at your own fears, look at them as if you were looking at someone else’s fear. Do you see how funny and ridiculous they appear to be, when you’re not the person whose afraid of them anymore?
