THE STONE AND THE FLUTE
By Hans Bemmann

‘The Stone and the Flute’ is a book adventure about becoming. Listener is a quiet young man who goes on a journey to visit his grandfather. Little does he know he is setting out on the incredible journey of the sorcerer. Along the way he makes many mistakes that get him into lots of precarious situations and amazing adventures.
The Learning Channel of Life
With each situation he finds himself going deeper and deeper into the learning channel of life. At the end of each adventure quest he thinks he has gotten the lesson. But he keeps having to chase freedom. Thus indicating how little he really understands the messages being presented to him along the freedom trail.
Relationship Tests and the Black Magic Woman
As a result of all the relationship tests and experiences; Listener becomes many things. From a quiet young man who doesn’t like noise, to the slave of a black magic woman who turns him into a fawn. It is not until he finally let's go of his ambitions for power and domination that he finally see’s the error of his choices. This spiritual alchemy aids him in becoming more of who he really is.
Break the Ego Trip Wheels and Mindless Self Indulgence
The Stone and the Flute struck me in how we, as human beings, have a tendency to be blind to our mistakes. We get stuck in the ego trip wheels of self-importance, procrastination, complacency and mindless self indulgence. Thus we keep repeating them over and over until the lesson is learned. Sometimes we never learn the lesson. If we can see life as a mystic quest then it is easier to learn from our mistakes. The result, we become more of who we are. The trick is to have enough humility and responsibility for the choices you have made. Then your life purpose becomes aligned with the statement: “Know Thyself!”
Please see the following insert below taken from ‘The Stone and the Flute’. While reading through the insert take the time to think about the process of change. “‘A curious thing, that,’ he said, after hearing Listener’s explanation. ‘You cut a piece of living wood in the forest, and let it dry out, till it looks as if there’s no more life in it, and you trim it with a hatchet and bore out its inside, and turn the outside on your lathe, and then you pierce that thin, almost fragile pipe with holes all over the place, you harm it every way you can, so that there’s nothing left of its own natural form, and only then will the wood make music and come to new and different life.’” For the Tropic of Freedom Books Finders Keepers: How have you been changed by the events in your life? How much more have you become in comparison to who you once were?
