The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ by C.S. Lewis, is book five of the Narnia Chronicles. In this book, the two youngest Pevensie children and their cousin Eustace find themselves in the magic kingdom of Narnia. They are pulled through a painting of a ship lost at sea. The Pevensie’s are ecstatic to be back in Narnia but their cousin is not so happy. He had taunted his cousins with his belief that Narnia never existed.




Adventure of the Seas

Three years have passed and peace has been established in Narnia. Prince Caspian had undertaken an oath to find the seven lost Lords of Narnia. He is on the Dawn Treader on a kings quest to fulfill his oath. A talking mouse named Reepicheep is also on board the Dawn Treader. He hopes to find Aslan’s country beyond the seas of the “utter East”.




The Courage to Heal
with a Behaviour Change

During the voyage of the Dawn Treader, Eustace leaves the group. He finds himself in a fire breathing dragon’s cave. Overtaken by greed he decides to take the treasure for himself. Because of this choice, Eustace becomes a fire breathing dragon. While in the form of a dragon, Eustace becomes aware of his bad attitude, and uses his strength to make amends. After his attitude change, Aslan turns Eustace back into a boy, now a much nicer person.




What Can Be Found At Worlds End

Upon finding the last of the seven lost Lords of Narnia, Prince Caspian finds them in deep sleep and dreams. The crew is instructed to sale to worlds’ end and leave one crew member behind. This is the only way to wake the sleeping lords. When the crew sails to the point where they can go no further, the Pevensie’s, Eustace and Reepicheep, take a boat to worlds’ end. After their return, everyone is amazed in the attitude change in Eustace.

Upon their return, the reaction of Eustace’s mother to the change he has undergone through his adventure, made me think of two things.

The first being:Change is a journey, and we are not always aware of what we allowing ourselves to change into.The second being: How much are we a product of our parents making?
